Founded in June 2002, School of Journalism and Communication,Henan University is the first school which dedicates to the specialized cultivation of journalism and communication talent in Henan Province. The history of its subject construction dates back to 1948, at that time, Zhongyuan University had established Journalism Department, XieBingyan(One of the pioneers of the news work of the Communist Party of China, former Deputy Director of Chinese Academy of Social SciencesInformation Institute) used to be the deputy director. Having experienced several college adjustments, Journalism and its related majors are integrated into Chinese Subjects. With several generations’ joint efforts, since 1980s, Editing and Publishing, Journalism, Broadcasting and other majors had witnessed a huge progress. On 1986, Editing and Publishing major enrolled the first batch of postgraduates in the professional direction in China. On 1990, Chinese Department formed one of the few cultural communication institutes at that time in China. On 1993, School of Journalism and Communication began to enroll and cultivate professional talents of Journalism and Hosting , and became the third school which owns Radio and Television majors all over the country.On 1996, Advertising majors was established.

There are tow provincial first-level key subjects which are School of Journalism and Communication, Drama and Film Studies; a second-level doctor section of Intercultural Communication; two first-level master sections of School of Journalism and Communication and Radio and Television majors; three professional master degree sections of Journalism and Communication, Publishing, and Radio and Television majors . The school enrolls professional academic masters of Journalism , Communication, Broadcasting and Hosting Arts, Drama and Film Studies , and professional masters of Journalism and Communication, Publishing, Radio and Television majors. According to the Education Ministry’s third round of subjects evaluation results, college subjects ranked 19^th in national similar majors.

The school has established Journalism, Advertising, Editing and Publishing, Radio and Television, Broadcasting and Hosting Arts Departments majors. There are five undergraduate majors which are Journalism, Advertising, Editing and Publishing, Radio and Television, Broadcasting and Hosting Arts Departments, and Radio and Television Director. The college has National News and Communication Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Henan Education New Media and Public Opinion Research Center, Media Research Institute, Edit and Publish Research Center, Film Arts Research Institute, etc.

The School of Journalism and Communication has cultivated thousands of undergraduates and postgraduates, many of whom has become vigorous forces of Journalism and Communication area, and colleges ,since the founding more than ten years ago.
